PRE-K AND KINDERGARTEN FACULTY

Mrs. Judy Daniell - Pre-K
(B.S. Youngstown State University)   
Mrs. Daniell has taught various grades in private and public schools in Ohio and Georgia. She has been teaching Pre-K at Veritas since 2001. She has traveled to Panama, Haiti, Canada and Mexico on several missions trips.  She has recently traveled to Scotland to visit friends.  She and her husband, Frankie, have one daughter who attends Veritas. They are members of Independent Presbyterian Church. 








Mrs. Tricia Barrett - Kindergarten
(B.S.Ed. and M.Ed. University of Georgia)  
Mrs. Barrett taught preschool through 3rd grade in the Atlanta and Richmond Hill public school systems before coming to Veritas. She has her master's degree in education for the hearing impaired.  She and her husband, Tim, reside in Richmond Hill and are members of Independent Presbyterian Church. They have two children at Veritas. 








Mrs. Stacey Knofczynski - Kindergarten
(B.S. South Dakota State University, B.S. Black Hills State University, M.A. University of Northern Colorado)
Mrs. Knofczynski has taught Kindergarten and 4th grade in Colorado, as well as served as the K-12 school librarian.  She has also taught Pre-K at a Christian Preschool in Savannah.  She and her husband, Greg, have four children and attend Savannah Christian Church.









Mrs. Miriam Mayes 
5 Day Kindergarten
Mrs. Mayes has taught kindergarten for several years in the public school system.  She, her husband and two daughters are active members of Southside Baptist Church.


GRAMMAR SCHOOL FACULTY


Mrs. Pat Brown - 1st Grade
(B.S. Bradley University)
Mrs. Brown has taught preschool, kindergarten, 3rd and 4th grade in various schools around Georgia.  Most notably though she homeschooled both of her children all the way through high school graduation. She is active in the Bonna Bella Bear Club at her church.  This is a ministry which gives a hot meal, Bible stories and games on Thursday afternoons to low income families with children. Mrs. Brown enjoys quilting, sewing and reading in her free time.  She and her husband are members of Southside Baptist Church.







Mrs. Sandra Ward - 2nd Grade
(Armstrong Atlantic University)   
Mrs Ward has taught 2nd grade at Veritas since 2001. She has a background in merchandise buying and has taught kindergarten Sunday school at the Independent Presbyterian Church for 15 years where she is a member together with her husband, Bucky, and their two teenaged children.









Mrs. Angie Wilkins - 3rd Grade
(B.S. University of North Carolina, Charlotte; M.A. Armstrong Atlantic State University)
Mrs. Wilkins has taught elementary and middle school in public and private schools in Georgia since 1992.  Additionally, she has lived in Florida and North Carolina.  Her passion for classical, Christian education led her to start a school in 2005.  Her favorite subjects are Literature and History, and she is an avid reader of both.  She and her husband, Martin, and family enjoy camping and the outdoors. They are working toward their goal of visiting all the state parks of Georgia.  The Wilkins have one daughter and two sons, all of whom attend Veritas.  Mrs. Wilkins and her family are active members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Springfield.





Mrs. Lindsay Arant - 3rd Grade
(B.S. Mississippi State University)
Mrs. Arant was born and raised in Tupelo, Mississippi.  She attended Mississippi State University and graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education.  It was there that she met her husband, Allen.  They married after graduating and moved to Fort Rucker, Alabama, where he went to Army flight school.  They spent two years there, and she taught in the Enterprise school district.  Upon flight school graduation, they were assigned to Hunter Army Airfield and moved here in May of this year.  They live in Savannah with their cat, Jackson, and attend First Presbyterian Church in Pooler.  Lindsay feels blessed to be a teacher at Veritas this year.  She has a true passion for teaching children and is excited to begin this school year with us.




Mrs. Leigh Weikert - 4th Grade and Grammar School Lead Teacher
(B.S. East Carolina University; Teaching Certificate, University of North Carolina, Wilmington)  
After several years in the business world and with a background in fashion merchandising Mrs. Weikert, returned to school to earn her teaching credentials in Language Arts and Social Studies. She has taught in Massachusetts, North Carolina, and Georgia. Interestingly, she has also served as a SCUBA instructor on a cruise line in the Caribbean for two years.  She and her husband, David, are members of Independent Presbyterian Church and have three children.







Mrs. Carrie Beth Atkinson - 5th Grade
(B.A. Asbury University; M.A.Ed. College of William and Mary)
Mrs. Atkinson has taught in the middle school grades for several years.  She specifically has taught gifted classes in Statesboro, GA for 2 years.  While receiving her master's degree in gifted education, she wrote a middle school unit, A System in Conflict:  The American Civil War.  She has recently spent the last several years homeschooling her oldest son.  She and her husband have two children, one of whom is a third grader at Veritas.  The Atkinson family are members of White Bluff United Methodist Church. 







Mrs. Fun Gobel - 6th Grade Grammar/Composition/Literature, College Guidance Counselor
(A.B. Princeton University)  
Mrs. Gobel and her husband, David, are founding board members of Veritas. She developed the 1st and 2nd grade history classes, has taught grammar and was interim administrator of Veritas Academy from 2001-2003. She has also served as Dean of Academics for three years.  She and her family enjoy traveling abroad and recently enjoyed a six week stay in France.  Mrs. Gobel and her family are members of Independent Presbyterian Church where she has been active in the Right to Life Committee for several years.



 



Rev. Dr. Terry Johnson - 6th Grade History
(A.B. University of Southern California, cum laude; M.Div. Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary, summa cum laude; D.Min. Erskine Theological Seminary)   
Dr. Johnson is the Senior Minister of the Independent Presbyterian Church, in which capacity he has served for over twenty years. He is the author of several books. He and his wife Emily team teach this class. They are founding board members of Veritas Academy and parents of five children, all of whom have attended Veritas Academy. 

Mrs. Courtney Quarterman
6th Grade Zoology II
(B.S. Tennessee University)  
Mrs. Quarterman received her degree in Bio-Chemistry and has taught middle school. She and her husband are members of Christ’s Community Church. They have one child at Veritas.      








Mrs. Patricia Darrow6th Grade Math    
(B.A. Augusta College; M.A. Georgia Southern University; National Board Certification in Mathematics/Early Adolescence)
Mrs. Darrow has recently retired from teaching in the public school system.  Her love for teaching called her to Veritas in 2010.  She and her husband, Rick, have traveled to the Mideast and Asia.  They have three children and four grandchildren.  Mrs. Darrow enjoys gardening, walking and playing with here grandchildren.  She soon plans to learn how to play the bowed psaltery.      



    



Mrs. Kirstine Flanagan - 3rd, 5th and 6th Grade Latin
Born and educated in Great Britain, Mrs. Flanagan has taught Latin at Veritas Academy for three years. She and her husband, Jose, have three children and she homeschooled each of them from grades 6-12.  Interestingly, she also worked as a diamond sorter for a jewelry company.  She and her family have lived in Austria and Germany as missionaries.  She and her husband have three grown children and two grandchildren - one of whom attends Veritas Academy.  They are members of Independent Presbyterian Church. 






 

Mrs. Katie Beaumont -  1st-6th Grade Omnibus Primer
(B.A. The Master's College; M.A. Reformed Theological Seminary)
Mrs. Beaumont has a passion for the performing arts.  She has directed multiple children's church choirs Kindergarten through 6th grade in California and Mississippi.  She has also taught drama and Bible at a classical Christian school in Mississippi.  While living in Maryland, she taught 4th grade science for one year.  She has traveled extensively throughout Europe and Asia and has gone on several mission trips to Cuba, Jamaica, Brazil, Canada and Mexico.  She and her husband, Brent, have two preschoolers and are members of Christ Church (Anglican).


LOGIC SCHOOL FACULTY

Eric Darrow - 7th Grade Omnibus I History and Logic I
(B.S. Toccoa Falls College, M.Div. Trinity Evangelical Divinity School)
A long-time Savannah resident (26 years), Mr. Darrow spent 15 years as the pastor of New Life Fellowship (CMA) and then 9 years teaching Bible, Theology, and History at both Providence Christian School and Effingham Christian School.  Rick also served as a US Navy Chaplain for 18 years.  He came to Veritas last year as a substitute teacher when his wife Patricia joined our faculty as a Math and Logic teacher.  A favorite among the students, Rick will teach Omnibus I History and Logic I this year.  Outside of Veritas, Rick is a father of 3 and a grandfather of 4.





Mr. Brent Beaumont - 7th Grade Omnibus I Theology
(B.S. University of Arkansas; M.Div. Reformed Theological Seminary; M.A. St. John's College)
Brent is unique in that his expertise spans both the humanities and math/science. He has traveled to Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam, Estonia and Finland.  He is an avid Arkansas Razorbacks football fan, enjoys fly fishing and coffee roasting.  He and his wife have two small children and are members of Christ Church (Anglican).









Mrs. Evelyn Hamilton - 7th Grade Omnibus I Literature, 8th Grade Grammar/Composition
(B.S. Armstrong Atlantic State University)  
Mrs. Hamilton and her husband have raised five children and she homeschooled them for eight years.  She has also taught at a local Christian school for 16 years before coming to Veritas.  Mrs. Hamilton loves to travel abroud and has been to most of the European countries.  She plays the piano and guitar, quilts, knits, crochets, gardens and loves to read history and mystery novels.  She and her husband, Chester, are active members at Providence Presbyterian Church.  






Mr. Tom Wilkes - 8th Grade Latin
(B.A. University of the South; M.A. Armstrong Atlantic State University)
Mr. Wilkes has taught for 18 years in both boarding and day schools in New England and in the South.  After moving back home to Savannah to be closer to family, he taught for 7 years at a local private school.  He also is employed by  Forest Products International, Inc.  Mr. Wilkes loves to travel abroad and has been to 16 European countries.  Tom follows Notre Dame football, is an avid swimmer, reads, paints, plays the piano, and happily orders his life around the needs and wishes of two golden retrievers named Luke and Kate.

Mr. Charles “Chip” Welch - 8th Grade Omnibus II Theology
(B.A. Mercer University; M.Div. Reformed Theological Seminary)  
Mr. Welch is a native of Savannah.  He has lived in Mississippi and Colorado working with Christian ministries for college students.  After moving back home in 2006, he has taught several classes at Veritas in our Logic and Rhetoric schools, as well as, coached the boys basketball and flag football teams.  He has chaired our Student Life Committee for several years also.  He enjoys playing golf and cheering on the Georgia Bulldogs.  He and his wife, Meg, have two young boys and are active members of Christ Church (Anglican).







Mrs. Dena Holt - 8th Grade Omnibus II Literature
(B.A. Simmons College summa cum laude; M.A. James Madison University summa cum laude)
Mrs. Holt is a fluent Spanish speaker.  She has worked for several years for various law firms in Savannah translating Spanish legal documents into English, and writing and editing the content of the firms' website and newsletters.  While in college, she studied abroad in Spain, France, Italy, England and Egypt.  Mrs. Holt was also an NCAA All-American athlete in cross-country and track.  She and her husband enjoy restoring old historic houses as a hobby.  They have 3 children and are attending Wesley United Methodist Church.







Mrs. Judith Rushing - 8th Grade Omnibus II History

Mrs. Rushing is a native of Savannah, who majored in history and started teaching right after college.  Before becoming a mother, she taught at a local Christian school for five years.  Her husband, Steve, is in the military which has taken the family to Texas and other places in the country.  She has three children; two of them are students at Veritas. She and her husband are members of Independent Presbyterian Church.

Mr. Lance Levens - Rhetoric I
(B.A. Emory University, Master of Religion, The School of Theology at Claremont (CA), and an M.A. in Latin from The University of Georgia)
In addition he holds the Reifezeugnis, Mittlestufe I from the Goethe Institut, Boppard am Rhine, Germany.  His short stories, poems, translations and essays have appeared in numerous journals, both on line and in hard copy.  His chapbook Jubilate (Pudding House Press) was published in 2007, the year he was nominated by Storyglossia for a Pushcart Prize in fiction.  He received a second Pushcart Nomination in 2010 for his poem “Heat” (The Chimera) and in 2011 was a recipient of the nationwide Carpe Articulum prize for short fiction.  He and his wife, Jean, have two grown children and a schnoodle, Moe.  Mr. Levens is a member of Christ Church (Anglican).

Mrs. Daniels has a degree in engineering and has used that knowledge to teach various science and math classes.  She is an avid bicycler having participated in Bike Ride Across Georgia this past summer.  She and her husband, Joel, have three children who all attend Veritas.  They are members First Presbyterian Church of Pooler.

Mrs. Marisa Lilje
- Art I, II, III
(B.F.A. Bowling Green State University; M.F.A. New York Academy of Art)

Mrs. Lilje has a passion for the visual arts.  She and her husband spent a month traveling and studying in Italy.  She enjoys drawing knitting, sewing and baking. Besides teaching at Veritas, Mrs. Lilje stays busy raising their three young boys.  She also teaches at the Jepson Center for the Arts in downtown Savannah.  


ATHLETICS

Kim Godbee-Glisson - Athletic Director and Teachers Assistant
(B.A. Armstrong Atlantic State University, M.F.A Savannah College of Art and Design)
Mrs. Godbee-Glisson, or Coach G as she likes to be called, was the head women's basketball coach at SCAD for three years.  She has also taught and coached at St. Vincent's School for nine years before coming to Veritas in 2009.  Coach G has expanded our athletic department since joining us.  She and her husband, Rex, have one daughter who attends Veritas, and the family are members of Southside Baptist Church.
