Pre-K and Kindergarten

We believe that the purpose of both kindergarten and pre-kindgergarten is to introduce young children to the experience of going to school.  These classes are supplemental to the training, teaching and playtime that children receive at home.  Pre-K at Veritas offers four-year-olds a limited group experience outside of the home which is meant to reinforce the Christian values and basic skills they are learning at home.

Kindergarten offers a structured classroom environment for a limited duration in which five-year olds can learn basic math and phonics.  The kindergarten teacher assists parents in introducing these subjects to their children.  Both the teacher and parent must recognize that language and motor skills develop at different rates in children of this age.    Thus the assessment of these skills must be considered in the context of the individual child’s capabilities.  Uniformly requiring that all kindergartners master certain skills and knowledge is unreasonable.  Parents and teachers should be patient and affirming in teaching all children at this age.

Pre-K and Kindergarten are unlike any other grade level at Veritas Academy.  These classes are not intended to be an academically rigorous or demanding environment.  They are meant to be, rather, a fertile and well-tended garden.  In this garden our children can feast on morsels of knowledge which whet the appetite for a life-long love of learning.  In this pleasant garden they are trained and equipped for the rigors and challenges of the full-curriculum school.
