Our History

In the spring of 1997 a small group of Savannah parents met to discuss “educational alternatives” for their children.  Some of the families were homeschoolers; others had children enrolled in local private schools.  They came with a variety of concerns and desires.  All believed that a family-based, Christ-centered classical education was best.  These meetings continued through the summer.  By the fall, an informal classical Christian homeschool ‘co-op’ had begun to offer Latin and Science at Eastern Height’s Presbyterian Church.

In March of 1998 the group decided to form “Veritas Academy:  A Center for Classical Christian Learning.”  The newly formed board of directors began planning an assortment of classes to be offered at the Grammar school level starting in the fall of 1998.  The board, both then and now, is committed to a condensed school day for the Grammar School.

The guiding vision of Veritas has remained the same since its inception.  Its purpose is to assist parents in providing for their children an education that is Christian, classical, and family-based.  In pursuing this vision Veritas has grown.  With growth in the student body, programs, and administration, fundraising efforts have also grown but always in support of our vision.  In 2005 an athletic program was begun for the Logic School.  Also, we now have a thriving Logic School (Grades 7-8).  In 2011 Grades 9-12 have separated to form Veritas Rhetoric School.  It is thriving with increased enrollment.

By the Grace of God, Veritas will continue to grow in accordance with the vision He has given us.
