Annual FundDear Veritas Families, Greetings from the 2011-2012 Annual Fund Committee! We have begun another exciting school year at Veritas and that means it is time to kick-off our participation drive for the Veritas Annual Fund. We are thrilled to begin this year’s participation campaign by announcing some great news: In May Veritas received our first ever grant from The Huston Foundation! The Annual Fund Committee has gone to great lengths the past two years to emphasize how critical it is that every Veritas family gives to the AF. We are truly more concerned that each family gives than we are concerned with how much each family gives. As we have articulated that message in the past, many have asked, “What is an appropriate amount?” So, this year we have established a 4-tier structure to help our families determine what level of support they can offer. Level 1: $1.00 - $49.99 gift The second question is usually, “How can whether I give REALLY mean as much as what amount I give?” Well, that answer requires that we consider the perspective of those whose job it is to allocate charitable funds. Charitable organizations want to know that schools they support will survive. The best measure of a school’s commitment to its stated mission is not its balance sheet, but what percentage of the constituency is willing to give beyond the tuition costs. The higher the percentage, the safer it is for these supporting organizations to support the school. A school with substantial cash is seen as lacking the need. A school with low constituent support is seen as lacking commitment. A school with high constituent support and clear financial need is seen as a great investment of their funding. How can we convince these organizations that Veritas is a great investment of their funds? Primarily, by giving to the Annual Fund. The last question may be: “Does it work this way in real life, or is this just in theory?” Our first ever grant serves as real-life confirmation. The Huston Foundation, in pursuing a mission to integrate technology in education, agreed to provide proceeds to fund 4 laptop computers and 2 digital projectors to be used by Veritas teachers. Our deepest appreciation is extended to Aimee Serafin for innumerable hours and immeasurable energy dedicated toward helping make Annual Fund giving translate into external funding. We anticipate that this is just the first of many successes that will help to develop Veritas Academy and the Veritas Rhetoric School into institutions that pursue excellence in education, and thereby fulfill the Biblical mandate to honor God in all endeavors. In closing, we would encourage you to read the enclosed brochure and complete and return the AF pledge card at your earliest convenience. Thank you for all of the ways you support Veritas with your time, finances, and energy as we all continue Growing Together! Please contact any of the people below with any questions. You may call the school office to inquire about their phone numbers.
